Summit Code of Conduct

The standard of behaviour we expect from every person on the Summit floor, in every session, and in every follow-on conversation.

Why we publish this

The Summit brings skilled African professionals into direct conversation with employers, agencies and policymakers from around the world. That conversation has to happen on the basis of trust — the kind that only exists where behaviour is defined, published and enforced.

This Code applies to every registered attendee — delegate, partner, exhibitor, speaker, media, staff, volunteer and observer.

What we expect

  • 01Treat every delegate, agency representative, speaker, journalist, staff member and volunteer with dignity and respect, regardless of race, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability or professional background.
  • 02Represent yourself and your organisation truthfully. Do not misrepresent your qualifications, your employer, your immigration status or your intent as an agency or employer.
  • 03Follow the direction of Summit staff, security and venue personnel, particularly in matters of safety, entry, exit and emergency procedure.
  • 04Respect intellectual-property rights. Do not record, film or photograph sessions or booth conversations without the express consent of the parties present.

What we do not accept

  • 01Harassment, intimidation, unwelcome advances or discriminatory remarks of any kind — verbal, physical, digital or written.
  • 02Aggressive sales, high-pressure recruitment or coercive tactics of any kind, including in one-to-one candidate conversations.
  • 03Fraudulent representation of licences, visas, employers, salaries or working conditions.
  • 04Distribution of visa or job offers that are not backed by a licensed sponsor, verifiable employer or lawful contract of employment.
  • 05Any conduct that endangers the physical or emotional safety of another attendee, breaches the venue's rules, or contravenes Kenyan law.

How to report a concern

If you experience or witness behaviour that breaches this Code, please raise it with any member of Summit staff (identifiable by their lanyards) or the on-site safeguarding lead. You may also write to us in confidence at safeguarding@theworkabroadsummit.co.uk before, during or after the Summit.

Reports are handled with discretion and priority. Where necessary, we will engage the appropriate authorities. Retaliation against a person for making a good-faith report is itself a breach of this Code.

Consequences

We reserve the right to warn, remove or ban any attendee whose conduct falls below the standard set out above, without refund. For partner agencies and exhibitors, breaches may result in revocation of Verified Partner status and forfeiture of fees.
